Question 5 – Personal Perspective – Quality
What do you think of the quality of the design and composition? Do you believe the composition was well thought out, reasons? Were the elements of space, line and shape effectively used (yes and no not acceptable answers)?
-I think the qualit of the design and composition is well thought out AND creative. As far as our topic “Transportation” goes, everybody went for all sorts of vehicles. Seeing that Ms.Debbie used Shoes for transportation is very unique and creative on her part. Plus, the design is really good that it can convey transportation PLUS it can be used as an ad for shoes.
Good Work Ms. Debbie.

Question 3 – Shape
How is shape used in the composition? 2-d, 3-d, grouping of shapes, etc. How were elements of shape used to optimum effect in composition? If shape was not effective give reasons.
The use of shape was effectively presented in this image. The space behind the black boot enhances that images and pushes it toward the viewer. The shapes of the “wings” adds a nice effect to the image. Also, the shape of the clouds really goes along with the wings. Great job Debbie.

Question 4 – Personal Perspective – Concept
How effectively was the concept of “transportation” explored? Do you think that this student successfully communicated transportation as the main idea of the composition; if not what do you think the main concept is?
—
Transportation was explored in a very creative fashion in this composition. Instead of taking the common route of vehicles for transportation (as I did myself), Debbie mixed a little old-school with new and brought Hermes’ mythological winged sandals to a new line of speed-granting footwear. The concept is fresh and witty, and the idea of flying shoes is just too fun to ignore. Let me know when the boots get in, I want a pair!
1. How is space used in the composition? (filling the space: concept of negative explored. Techniques may create the illusion of space (which techniques)/ How were elements of space used to optimum effect in composition.
Space was very effectively used in the composition by dividing the composition into four distinct areas.
The header provides information about the image including the name of the company, Hermes Hightops, the company tag line, fly fast, and company logo.
The footer repeats the company logo several times followed by a product image of a boot with the company logo.
The body of the composition is divided into two areas.
The left and larger area of the body shows a person walking with two different types of footwear with arrows giving emphasis of both direction and motion along with lines giving the effect of movement. The company logo is on each of the types of footwear.
The negative space in the left body area also uses a background image that gives the sense of both motion and direction
The right and smaller area of the body is used to display an image of a new fall product in the boots category with an image of one boot. The text for the area is slanted to give the sense of movement and direction upwards.
All of the space was used effectively to optimize the impact of the composition and the information conveyed to the viewer.
A darker blue color was used for the header and footer spaces.
Lighter colors were used for the left body section.
A dark blue color was used for the small right body sction.
Color ocntrast is used to divide the composition’s spaces into distinct areas. Very well done.
Footwear is needed when you use your legs for transportation.
Excellent use of space.

Question 2 – Line
How is line used in the composition? Contour, types of line, emotion or texture effectively used (describe where and how within the composition).
How were elements of line used to optimum effect in composition? If line was not effective give reasons.
——-
Hello Debbie,
You use a variety of lines that portray movement, shows texture and guides the viewer through your composition. The varying lines of all the shoes and on the pants depict different types of textures; i.e. the bottom of the green Converse looks very smooth; the boot and its sleekness; pants and the roughness of jeans, etc. The arrows form implied lines that guide the viewer to gaze upward (or across, depending where you begin looking) and from there, we are able to see the text. The wings on the bottom of the image, in a way, “points” toward the boot. The use of contour lines on the legs/feet give the illusion of motion, and in this case flying via the lovely, winged shoes. (I love your spin on Hermes’s winged sandals!) You fully use lines to your advantage and it enhances the whole image. Wonderful job!
