Q4. How effectively was the concept of “green-ness” explored? Do you think that this student used the elements of value, texture and color effectively to enhance the concept, how did the branding of the song interplay if at all?
A4. The blue-green of the water looks great and the green in the map uderwater looks really cool. The texture is definitively used here, it has all kind of water circles. I think that the banners that are placed in the right and left sides of the composition emphasize more attention to the center where the hand with the planet earth is located. The value around the image is making it look more interesting. The image in the center looks like a sculpture, very nice job! I listen to the song one time and I read the lyrics, but I didn’t get any inspiration to do my project and I don’t think I see anything from the song in this project either.

    2. What role does texture have in the composition? (Detail, pattern, space, and/or design). Be specific, if texture missing or weak include that also.

    Composition critiqued: Debbie
Texture plays a major role in this composition. In fact, almost the entire composition is nothing but a study in texture. The large area in the front is unmistakably water and resonates throughout the total composition. Although the image of the Earth is repeated very large in the background, the texture of the ripples placed over this add an almost tactile feel. You think you might actually be able to reach out and touch some of the ripples in the background and foreground.

  3. I think that Debbie did an outstanding job with value in this project. With the Earth being set back and the water drop in front creates definate 3-D experience. Also with the light and dark areas of the water, she did a great job creating the effect of light reflecting. Super job Debbie.

    - Wow. Just wow. First of all, the elemnts of value, texture and color are used very effectively in the composition. The water, the “watery hand” and the globe in the background, adds up to a really fantastic composition. I kind of feel like that the hand grabbing the earth gives a good feel on the song “Im Yours” with the message that we,people around the world, are in-charge of preserving the earth.

  5. Project 2 Critique – Color
How is color used in the overall composition? Which colors dominate which reinforce the concept? How is color value used in composition? Be specific and use terms related to color.

Color is used very effectively in the overall composition. Blues and greens are the dominant colors in the image, an obvious nod to the concepts of being green and water conservation. However, Debbie didn’t bash us over the head with strong greens and neon signs declaring their motive. The colors’ values and hues subtly shift in rippling waves overlaid on top of the entire composition, reinforcing the feeling of water. No one color is overly strong or bold, each color slowly flowing into the next, giving a calm and unhurried feeling as though we are floating in a summer pool. Color is used to it’s fullest potential. Great job on the composition!

  6. Debbie,

I love your composition. The quality of the overall image is superb; nothing seems out of place. All of the images and colors blend or compliment/enhance each other. The different hues of blue and the texture you’ve used have created an absolutely breath-taking image. The decorative pattern (with different values of blue) added to the whole piece and didn’t take away from it at all; nice call.

Your approach to the whole composition is very refreshing and unique. It’s evident the whole focus of the piece is water and it does subtly promote water sustainability. In my opinion, the picture of Earth in the background really ties the whole composition together even though it isn’t as noticeable as the other images; it is what clues viewers about the meaning of the composition. It makes me think of the beauty of water and its importance on Earth – it is the water of life. I can clearly see this image used on billboards, even commercials; you’ve created a very versatile piece that is aesthetically pleasing. Great job!

    • Sorry, I thought I had included the question! I answered question 5 of the critique questions.

      5. What do you think of the quality of the design and composition? Would this design work well as a billboard or for multi-purpose advertising? Does the concept of sustainability as far as water the strongest focus of the piece?, Please explain in detail.

    2. What role does texture have in the composition? (Detail, pattern, space, and or design)

Wow this image is great! Texture is used in the bottom part of the image with the blue water. It is also used all over the image making the entire image look like it is in water. The sides of the image has bars that give it almost a old film quality look. Texture is used in the hands and globe to make them look like water.

Just one tip I have is that the blue over all background compeats with the beautiful hand and world image. I think if you made the hand with the world a little bigger and left the background a white or non blue color it would stand out more. Just my oppinion. Other than that I think this image is beautiful!

The concept of water and a green message are very obvious. This could definitely be used for advertising and getting a message about going green in a billboard. It would need a tagline to promote what aspect to go green for, but other than that the graphic itself is good and has many levels to it. and the liquid look and the earth in the center are very nice and enhance the image in a message for a green living advertisement.
